Feedback on my multilingual website builder
27 April 2010
A friend of mine, Steve, runs a Software as a Service CRM company and is therefore familiar with web applications. I've asked him to try my multilingual website builder to see what he thinks. It only took me a couple of minutes to set him up with an account to test my website builder.
Positive points of my multilingual website builder
- Using Free CSS Templates as the basis for most of my designs means I have a large collection of over 400 designs to build from.
- The drag and drop to move a webpage from one category (main webpages) to another (footer for example) is simple and intuitive.
- Labelling a webpage is simple and ties directly with the language of that webpage and its web address (URL).
- The link at the bottom of a webpage that is being edited is useful.
- The body of a webpage can have links.
Negative points of my multilingual website builder
- At one point, Steve tried to cut and paste text from a webpage to the homepage but that failed. Steve logged-out and logged-back-in and this time it worked.
- Using the back button while in admin can also cause problems when saving a webpage.
- Pictures can't be formatted or positioned around the text.
- The template designs can't be edited.
- Changing the company name, font, style and posting a custom logo would be a good feature to add.
- Steve couldn't navigate to the French page he had created.
- When adding links to the text of a webpage, it would be nice to have a list of pages that already exist in the website.
Overall impressions
Steve likes the simplicity of my multilingual website builder. It's easy to get around and he understood what to do without needing any direction at all. He feels confident that he could go in and make changes to the pages with relative ease. Steve also liked the speed of my website builder. There didn't seem to be any slowdowns anywhere with page loads.
