How to make a website more useful for its users and easier to find in search engines?
21 April 2010
I had a meeting with a charity who uses my multilingual website builder to manage their website today: the Young People Centre (YPC) in Brighton. The YPC takes care of Brighton young people needs and provide them with a safe and fun environment to socialise and inform them in central Brighton.
How to make the YPC website more useful to young people in Brighton?
My meeting with the YPC Counselling Co-ordinator focused on creating new pages about counselling and later on sexual health. Counselling young people has to be done person to person to be at its most effective, however many young people struggle with the idea of taking an issue to a counselling service.
Having a series of webpages about the different issues that affect some young people would be an excellent starting point. From the safety and anonymity of their own home, young people will be able to find relevant information about issues that concern them, such as self-harm, anxiety or eating disorders for example.
How to make the Brighton Young People website easier to find in search engines?
The first and simplest rule of search engine optimization is to write good quality content. Good content is worth linking to from other related websites and good content is rich in relevant words that are likely to be used in search engines.
Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content.

Writing these useful articles for young people can therefore only benefit the YPC and its users. More young people will be able to find the webpages about counselling published by the YPC and the search engines will give these pages a higher ranking for the relevant words they contain.
