Talking to clients in their own language

06 April 2010

Midori Lawler, the Microsoft BizSpark Marketing Manager, has raised an interesting question on LinkedIn: Do you think you could reach more customers if your website wasn’t just in English?

To answer this question, you will need to login to LinkedIn. The question was asked in the Microsoft BizSpark LinkedIn group, following my company being selected as Startup of the Day.

Christian Arno, the manager of Lingo24, a global translation company, points out that:

75% of the world’s population speaks no English at all

Although English is often spoken as a secondary language, it's much more effective to reach out to your customers in their own language:

customers are three times more likely to buy when addressed in their native language
